Sal Ligotino, CSBA

I have been in the drafting profession since 1988. I have degrees in Drafting and Design, Mechanical Engineering and Communications/Geology. I put myself through college working as a carpenter, building residential houses and manufacturing roof trusses. After graduating as an Engineer I started my career working for a local truss manufacturer designing truss’ for houses and commercial buildings. I then started a nine year career as a highway engineer at Orange County DPW where I surveyed highways, drafted maps, inventoried pavement, inspected highway construction, inspected/tested concrete pours for bridge construction, designed and engineered building plans, drafted bridge details as needed and was CAD manager for the office. For the past nine years I have been a Professor and Coordinator of the Drafting and Design program at SUNY Ulster. I currently teach: Drafting Fundamentals, Advanced Drafting, Revit, Inventor, Materials and Manufacturing, Architectural drafting and Commercial Architecture.

I have been drawing house plans independently for clients since 1990. My passion is mechanical design, though my expertise is architectural due to my vast knowledge of construction. In 2013 I became a Certified Sustainable Building Advisor allowing me to advise others in ways to conserve energy throughout their buildings.

I am happily married and a father of four beautiful girls’; I enjoy Mountain Biking and Woodworking.

I started professionally drafting right after leaving high school in 2004. As I worked on my associate’s degree in drafting and design, I worked full-time at a lighting manufacturer as a applications engineer. As I finished my degree, I moved forward to my passion and began working with my first design-build company. The small office allowed for a quick promotion from ‘draftsman’ to project manager over the course of a few months.

After having a few projects under my belt, I was offered the same position with a ‘high-end’ design-build office (David Borenstien, Architects).  At David’s office, I aided in design and drafted all CAD Plans. Once the drafting was complete, I had the opportunity to over-see construction. Including over-see construction, I completed/Aided in the in-house carpentry, plumbing & electrical.

While working with David, I continued my education, and put myself through college once again by completing a BA Degree in Interior Design.

For the past six years I have balanced work as a Drafting & Design Instructor at SUNY Ulster, Owner of a JH Interiors (Now part of Mid-Hudson Drafting & Design), and Head-Estimator at Ulster County Glass & Mirror.

Besides my passion for Architecture and Interior Design, I enjoy playing music, the great outdoors and spending time with my two daughters.
